In 1973, the SEAP Games Village opened in the center of Toa Payoh. There were four blocks of HDB as the residences of athletes, which were then sold to the public after the Olympics.

Church of the Risen Christ

Church of the Risen Christ opened in 1971 and is the first church in Toa Payoh. Like other religious institutions in Toa Payoh, the church is an important pillar of the community and has many social undertakings.

Chung Hwa Medical Institution

Chung Hwa Medical Institution was called Chung Hwa Free Clinic when it opened in 1978. It includes a Chinese medicine clinic, Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine Research Institute and Chinese Acupuncture Research Institute.

Toa Payoh Dragon Playground

Toa Payoh Dragon Playground is one of the early playgrounds designed by the Housing & Development Board. It is one of the only two remaining playgrounds in Singapore with this dragon design.

Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery

Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery was built in 1912 and is the oldest Buddhist temple in Singapore. The temples include Hall of Celestial Kings (Tian Wang Dian) and Mahavira Hall (Da Xiong Bao Dian), both of which are listed as national monuments due to their history and architectural value.

Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple

Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman was built in the late 1800s as a temple in the orchard area and is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore.
Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman 始建于 1800 年代后期,作为果园地区的一座寺庙,是新加坡最古老的印度教寺庙之一。



Potluck Zine is an exhibition co-created by 25 to 30 Toa Payoh East residents and the brilliant corner initiative of System Sovereign, founded by Singaporean multidisciplinary duo Kiat and Cherry Chan. Check out the artwork created by Toa Payoh East residents in collaboration with artists Boon Baked, YABAI YABAI (aka Stacy Tan), Dju-lian Chng and Stephanie Peh.
The program is supported by the NAC and the People’s Association Integration Committee, in partnership with the Integration and Naturalization Champions (INC) of Toa Payoh East.
The exhibition showcases pattern making and photography created by residents, inspired by each other’s food stories and memories of growing up in Singapore’s second oldest satellite city.

United Temple

Established in 1974, the United Temple is the first temple in Singapore to accommodate smaller temples created by and catered to different dialect groups. There are five village temples under the United Temple: Chee Tian Keng, Shan Zu Yuan Fu De Ci, Tong Xing Gang and Zhao Ying Ci temples, all of which were established during the Toa Payoh Kampong period.

Established in 1942, Toa Payoh Seu Teck Sean Tong Temple was originally located in an attap hut in Hup Choon Hng Kampong. The temple is part of the shan tang (charitable and religious institutions prominent in Southern China in the 17th century) network.

The 19-storey Block 53 has a striking Y-shaped design and is the only unit with this layout in Toa Payoh. It has hosted a series of foreign and local dignitaries; the most famous of which is Queen Elizabeth. She visited to this block and its rooftop viewing gallery made it known as the “VIP block.”
