The history of the Holy Tree Sri Balasubramaniar Temple can be traced back to 1962 when it was a small shrine near Canberra Road. It later became the religious and social space of the Hindu community in the former Sembawang Naval Base, which included Tamils from Tamil Nadu and Malayalees from Kerala.

The mural depicts Chong Pang’s past, present and future – from a kampong to a modern estate. Three tiles paving the centerpiece bear signatures from local residents, signifying that the residents are the heart of Chong Pang.
